Who we are

Gearvise is an independent gear review website operated by Anoop, based in Curepipe, Mauritius. The website address is https://gearvise.com. You can contact us at hello@gearvise.com for any privacy-related questions.

As an individual operator based in Mauritius serving readers in the EU, US, and globally, Gearvise applies GDPR principles as a baseline standard for all data handling regardless of where the reader is located.

Data we collect

Gearvise collects the following categories of data:

  • Contact form submissions — name, email address, and message content when you use the contact form. This data is submitted voluntarily and used only to respond to your message.
  • Newsletter subscriptions — email address only, when you subscribe to receive new review notifications. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Anonymous analytics — page views, session duration, device type, and general geographic region. This data is aggregated and cannot identify you individually.
  • Cookies — functional cookies required to operate the site and analytics cookies as described below.

Gearvise does not collect payment information, government identification, or sensitive personal data of any kind. We do not require account registration to use the site.

How we use your data

Data collected by Gearvise is used for the following purposes only:

  • Contact form data — to respond to your message. We do not add contact form submitters to mailing lists without explicit consent.
  • Newsletter email addresses — to send you notifications when new reviews are published. One email per new review. No promotional emails.
  • Analytics data — to understand which content is most useful and improve the site. This data is never used to target advertising or shared with third parties for marketing.

We do not use your data to make automated decisions that affect you. We do not build profiles of individual users. We do not use your data for any purpose not listed above.

Cookies

Gearvise uses the following categories of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies — required for the site to function. These cannot be disabled. They include cookies set by WordPress for security and session management.
  • Analytics cookies — used to collect anonymous statistics about site usage. These are set only with your consent via the cookie banner that appears on your first visit.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies — set by retail partners when you click an affiliate link. These are third-party cookies governed by the respective retailer's privacy policy. Gearvise does not control or access the data collected by these cookies.

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer. You can also control cookies through your browser settings.

Third party services

Gearvise uses the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:

  • Hostinger — web hosting provider. Stores site files and databases on servers in the EU. Subject to GDPR.
  • Google Analytics — anonymous analytics. Data is processed in the US under Google's privacy framework. Analytics cookies are only set with your consent.
  • MailerLite — email newsletter service. Stores subscriber email addresses. You can unsubscribe at any time. Subject to GDPR.
  • WPForms — contact form processing. Form submissions are stored in the WordPress database on our hosting server.

Gearvise does not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for marketing, advertising, or commercial purposes. Period.

Your rights

Under GDPR and equivalent data protection legislation, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Right of access
Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification
Request correction of any inaccurate data we hold about you.
Right to erasure
Request deletion of your personal data. We will comply within 30 days.
Right to object
Object to processing of your data for analytics or newsletter purposes at any time.
Right to portability
Request your data in a portable format that you can transfer to another service.
Right to withdraw consent
Withdraw consent for cookies or newsletter at any time without affecting past processing.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@gearvise.com with the subject line "Data Request." We respond to all data requests within 30 days.

Data retention

Contact form submissions are retained for 12 months and then deleted unless there is an ongoing correspondence that requires them to be kept longer.

Newsletter subscriber email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. On unsubscribe, your email is removed from all active lists within 48 hours.

Analytics data is retained for 14 months in Google Analytics before automatic deletion.

We do not retain data longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
